BIDDEFORD, Maine – For the second time in as many weeks, freshman kicker
Kyle Yannucci of Nichols football has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Special Teams Player of the Week.
The Port Jefferson, N.Y. native earns the honors following an eight-point performance in a 28-20 defeat at Hartwick on Saturday, splitting the uprights on two field goals and two point-after tries.
Yannucci broke the scoring open on a field goal good from 35 yards out, giving the Bison a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. Just over a minute later, he tacked on an extra point after a
Jack Morvan touchdown reception, increasing the Nichols lead to 10-0.
With 11:08 to play in the second quarter, Yannucci followed a
Kevin Pinheiro touchdown from
Kyle Keckler with an extra point to put the Bison back up by 10.
A 22-yard field goal with 1:59 to play in the third quarter rounded out the scoring from Nichols at 20 points.
Along with the place-kicking duties, Yannucci was also responsible for five kickoffs, averaging 5.8 yards per boot.
Yannucci and the Bison are set to commence CCC play on Saturday, October 1 against Western New England at Vendetti Field at 1 p.m.
