MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Senior
Petr Miko scored the game-winning goal 2:48 into the third period to lift the No. 6 Nichols College men's ice hockey team to a 3-1 upset of No. 3 Salve Regina Saturday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinal action at St. George's Ice Rink.
Senior captain
Curtis Carlson finished with a goal and two assists while freshman
Owen Gonter also scored for the sixth-seeded Bison (8-15-1), who advance to face No. 1 seed UNE in the CCC Semifinal round Wednesday.
Nichols – which has advanced to the conference semifinals in five of the past six season – has now ended the Seahawks' season two years in a row; the Bison knocked off the Seahawks 5-4 in overtime in the 2020 quarterfinals on a goal by Nick Mangone.
The Seahawks (16-8-2) outshot the Bison 44-24 but could only put one past junior netminder
Korbinian Lutz, who turned aside 42 shots to record his sixth win of the season.
