DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior
Jaekwon Spencer scored a team-high 23 points in Nichols College's 104-96 overtime win over Endicott College Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action on Senior Night at the Nichols Athletic Center.
Spencer – who also snared 10 rebounds in 40 minutes of action – was one of five NC student-athletes to reach double-figures in scoring. Graduate student
Matthew Alectus registered 20 points and snared seven rebounds while classmate
Matt Morrow went for 16 points and nine boards, and freshman
Tahmeen Dupree filled the stat sheet with 16 points, seven boards, and six dimes.
The fifth member of the group, junior
Jakigh Dottin, closed the night with 15 points, the final three of which came from the right corner at the buzzer to tie the game at 91 and send the game to overtime. Alectus then opened the extra session with a three-pointer, followed by a pair of shots from the charity stripe to give NC a 96-91 lead.
After the Gulls tied the lead on a triple from Mark Barrett, Morrow converted a layup at the other end to put the Bison ahead for good, 98-96, with 1:49 remaining. NC outrebounded the Gulls, 48-40, and shot 47 percent from the field – including 41 percent from downtown.
Billy Arsenault paced the Gulls (12-10, 9-8 CCC) with 30 points while Jaylen Echevarria went off for 24 points on 10-of-26 shooting.
Tonight's win, combined with the women's basketball team's 76-67 triumph over the Gulls earlier in the evening, gives Nichols its first-ever DH sweep of Endicott.
