Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bison hold off Gulls for seventh-straight win

BEVERLY, Mass. – Graduate student Matt Morrow registered 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Nichols College men's basketball team extended its winning streak to eight with a 71-68 win at Endicott College Thursday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Senior Jaekwon Spencer added 16 points, five boards, three blocks and three steals while graduate student Matt Alectus picked up 13 points and five rebounds for the Bison (18-2, 11-2 CCC). Senior Jason O'Regan knocked down three triples and closed the game with 11 points.

The Bison trailed by one at the break (33-32) but went up by one on a layup from Morrow four minutes into the second half. Nichols held the lead for the next 10 minutes until an and-one play from Endicott's Billy Arsenault gave the Gulls a 62-61 lead with 4:24 on the clock.

On the ensuing possession, Alectus put the Bison back on top for good with a layup. Spencer followed with a pair of layups that stretched the lead to five with 55 seconds left in regulation. Arsenault then had a contested look from deep in the final seconds, but his shot was well off the mark.

Nichols connected on 43 percent of its shots and made seven of its nine attempts from the charity stripe. The Gulls (11-8, 8-6 CCC) shot 40 percent and went 7-of-10 from the line.
