Women’s Ice Hockey Drops CCC Opener to No. 9 Endicott

HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Endicott struck for four third period goals to pull away from Nichols and spoil the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener for the Bison, who fell to the Gulls 5-0 on Friday night at Levy Rink. With the loss, Nichols falls to 0-2-0 (0-1-0 CCC) on the young season.

Both teams traded chances through the opening frame, but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock first, as Morgan Sisson found the back of the net with just 1:14 remaining to give the Gulls a 1-0 advantage at the first intermission. Victoria Bakapanos recorded seven saves in the first period for the Bison.

Both teams battled throughout the second period, but neither could find the back of the net as Bakopanos and Michaela O'Brien were solid in net for either side.

Just 4:25 into the third period, Samantha Fantasia found the back of the net for her first of the period, opening the floodgates for the Endicott offense. Fantasia would add another less than six minutes later for the Gulls to take a three-goal advantage. Endicott would add two goals in the final 5:25 of regulation to skate away with a 5-0 victory, their second of the season and first in CCC play.

The Bison blocked 27 shot attempts in the contest, with Rebecca Taylor leading the defensive efforts individually with four.

Both teams are set to square off again on Saturday, November 5 at Raymond J. Bourque Ice Arena in Beverly with puck drop scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
