HARRISVILLE, R.I. – The Nichols men's hockey program fell to Suffolk University, 6-3, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Friday evening at Levy Rink.
The Rams (1-2-0, 1-2-0) got on the board first at the 15:25 mark, on a tic-tac-toe play finished off by Peter Nugent. They would add another 11 minutes later.
Sophomore
Nathan Carl slimmed the Rams lead to one on a shorthanded breakaway, ripping a wrist shot into the top right corner of the net.
Carl tied the game with 12:21 remaining in the second period on his second shorthanded breakaway. The Rams defense recovered back before he could take a shot, however he was able to collect the puck after it ricocheted off a defender's skate and flicked a shot to the top right corner once again.
Sophomore
Gabe Temple scored another shorthanded and unassisted goal for the Bison (2-3-0, 0-3-0 CCC) with 11:33 remaining in the third period. Temple collected the puck from the boards and fired from the top of the faceoff circle to deliver the puck into the top left corner of the net.
Three minutes later, the Rams netted two goals in 55 seconds to extend the lead back to two, before a short-handed empty net insurance goal by Ryan Harrigan put the game on ice at 6-3.
Netminder Cal Wilcox made 27 saves en route to the win for Suffolk, while Nichols senior
Korbinian Lutz turned aside 29.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow, Saturday November 12, at Porrazzo Rink in East Boston, Mass. for a 4:50 p.m. matchup.
