BRISTOL, R.I. – The No. 3 seed Nichols women's tennis team swept No. 2 Roger Williams in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinals, 5-0, on Thursday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts. With the win, the Bison have solidified their spot in the CCC title match at No. 1 Endicott on Saturday.
Nichols jumped out to a comfortable three-point cushion following a sweep of doubles play. The duo of
Kelly Carlin &
Jordan Knowles gave the Bison a lead they would never let go of with an 8-1 victory on the third court.
Antonia Carrero &
Charis Vogler continued their tear in No. 1 doubles play this postseason with an 8-2 victory, before
Tifany Lucart and
Sophia Leonardi's 8-3 triumph sent the two sides into singles action with the visitors in front, 3-0.
Only needing to obtain two victories to win, Nichols relied on their No. 1 and 2 competitors, as both Carrero and Vogler earned the singles wins to secure the spot in the CCC Championship. Vogler led things off with a 6-2, 6-2 win on the second court before Carrero made short work of her opponent, 6-1, 6-1.
Nichols was able to avenge last year's CCC Semifinals defeat in a match with the Hawks in Dudley, and advances to the championship match for the first time since 2020.
The Bison will look to add to their five championship tally in Saturday's match, which is set to begin at 1 p.m. at the South Campus Tennis Courts on the campus of Endicott College.
