BEVERLY, MASS. – The Nichols women's tennis team fell to top-seeded Endicott by a score of 5-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship on Saturday afternoon at the South Campus Tennis Courts. The Bison, who entered the CCC postseason as the third seed, finish their season with an 8-5 record.
"It was an enjoyable season," said head coach
Ron Gendron. "I thought our team fought very hard and improved every week. We lost to a better team today, but it's an educational moment and we're looking forward to a productive spring."
The Bison battled hard in doubles play against an Endicott squad who refused to drop a doubles game against conference opponents all season, but ultimately conceded all three points to the Gulls.
Kelley Carlin &
Jordan Knowles fell just short with an 8-6 defeat coming against Olivia Berler and Shelby Henry in No. 3 doubles.
Antonia Carrero &
Charlis Vogler could not catch up to the duo of Lejla Guster & Ripley Uyeda on the first court, falling 8-5 on the first court. Olivia Martinelli & Ashley Keaveney pulled away from
Sophia Leondari &
Tifany Lucart, 8-4, sending the squads to doubles play with a 3-0 Gulls lead.
The match was decided on the fifth and sixth courts, as Lucart fell to Berler, 6-1, 6-3, before Henry took down
Camila Magrin, 6-3, 6-1, to clinch the Gull's third-straight title.
Both teams have now met ten times in the CCC title match, with Endicott holding a 6-4 edge in the all-time series.
