DUDLEY, Mass. – Following a third-place finish in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the Nichols women's tennis team is set to host #6 Gordon in the CCC Quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 18 at 3 p.m. at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
After starting conference play 1-2, the Bison finished on a five-match winning streak, including four straight sweeps of CCC opponents, to finish with a 5-2 league ledger.
In the two team's only meeting in the regular season, Nichols cruised to a 9-0 victory at home, giving the Bison their sixth-straight win over the Fighting Scots while also increasing the all-time series advantage to 18-7 in favor of the Bison.
Nichols has been led by its ace,
Antonia Carrero, who has competed on the first court in both singles and doubles play for the entirety of the 2022 campaign, coming off a CCC Player of the Year season the year prior. Carrero, a native of Hamburg, Germany, has compiled a regular-season singles and doubles record of 6-5.
Carrero was closely followed by fellow countrywoman and doubles partner,
Charis Vogler. A freshman out of Bradenburg, Germany, Vogler has burst onto the scene for the Bison this fall, taking home five CCC Rookie of the Week honors. Vogler has been stellar in her outings, moving up from the third court to courts No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, respectively, amassing a record of 8-3 in both singles and doubles.
Both Carrero and Vogler will remain a doubles tandem for the entirety of the post-season, entering with a nearly unblemished 4-1 record since joining forces.
Nichols is set to have
Sophia Leonardi take the No. 3 singles spot for the post-season, following a 4-5 dual-match record during the regular season.
Johanna Schroeder, coming off a 7-2 sophomore season, will be on court No. 4 for the playoffs, followed by
Jordan Knowles (1-3) and
Tifany Lucart (5-2), respectively.
Leonardi and Lucart (4-1) will take the second court doubles, while Carlin and Knowles (6-1) will cap off the final team for the Bison in doubles play.
The winner of Tuesday's meeting will advance to play in the CCC Semifinals on Thursday, at a time to be announced.
