Melanson, McElaney collect milestone points in 4-1 win over Golden Bears

HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Senior Isabella Portt scored a pair of goals and sophomore Meghan McElaney potted her first collegiate goal in Nichols College's 4-1 win over Western New England University Friday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Levy Rink.

Sophomore Grace Wiggett also scored for the Bison (8-7-1, 5-6-1 CCC), who outshot the Golden Bears 39-19 in the inaugural meeting between the two programs. Freshman Victoria Bakopanos recorded 18 saves to earn her third win of the season while sophomore Grace Melanson registered her first collegiate assist – the primary helper on Portt's second goal of the contest.

Graduate student Mel McAleer and senior Kara Santoro were also credited with apples; McAleer now has 98 career points (44-54-98), leaving her two shy of becoming the first student-athlete in program history to reach he century mark. Nichols killed off all four WNE (6-11-2, 4-8-0 CCC) power play opportunities.
