WORCESTER, Mass. – The Nichols College women's tennis team opened the 2021-22 campaign this past weekend at the Holy Cross Doubles Tournament.
Head Coach
Cris Popa's first doubles team of senior
Kara Stankewitz and junior
IsaBella Winter scored a 7-6 (7-2) win over Roger Williams and a 7-6 (7-1) win over Holy Cross before suffering an 8-5 loss to Bentley.
The second doubles team of sophomore
Kelley Carlin and freshman
Antonia Carrero picked up wins over Holy Cross (8-4), Assumption (8-4), and Roger Williams (8-3). Sophomore
Jordan Knowles and freshman
Johanna Schroeder took down Saint Anselm, 8-4, before falling to Franklin Pierce and Bentley by identical 8-5 scores as NC's third pairing.
The Bison's fourth doubles tandem of freshmen
Camila Magrin and
Kiley O'Brien scored a 7-6 (7-4) win over Assumption before they were bested by Holy Cross (8-4) and Franklin Pierce (8-0).
Senior
Victoria Lussier, sophomore
Cristen McSweeney, and freshman
Victoria Palkon rotated positions at fifth doubles, and were unable to record a win in three ties.
Nichols returns to action on Friday, September 10 when it hosts Wheaton (MA) in a non-conference match at 3:30 p.m.
