Jordan Knowles picked up the fifth and decisive point in Nichols College's 5-4 win over top-seeded Roger Williams University Thursday afternoon in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Tennis Pod Finals on the campus of Roger Williams University.Â
With the win, the four-time defending champions advance to face Endicott College on Saturday, May 8 at 1 p.m. in Beverly, Mass. The winner received an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
The match began at 4 p.m. and went well into the night and, tied at four-all, Knowles defeated Alexa DiCesare at No. 5 singles 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to send the Bison back to the ship. Other singles winners included sophomore
IsaBella Winter, who defeated Emma Place at No. 1 singles 7-5, 7-6; junior
Kara Stankewitz at No. 2 singles over Alessa Cahoon 6-4, 6-1; and senior
Juliana Herrera at No. 3 singles, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, over Heidi Martin.
In doubles action, the number 3 team of Herrera and classmate
Amanda Costa recorded an 8-7 win over Olivia Santoro and Tanya Gianitsos.
