DJ Caron and freshman
Victor Valentin each belted a grand slam for the Nichols College baseball team in a 20-11 win at Gordon College Wednesday afternoon at J. Tech White Field.
Valentin finished 4-for-6 with five RBI and three runs scored while Caron also knocked in five and scored twice. The Bison pounded out 18 hits and struck for 12 of their 18 runs in the fifth inning.
Freshman
Ben Jerome drove in three runs and recorded three hits out of the leadoff spot for the Bison (5-8) while graduate student
Kyle Bouchard collected two more hits as he inches closer to the program record; he has 188 for his career, 22 off the record held by former teammate
Cam Cook.
Nichols trailed 5-0 after one inning of play and found itself behind 7-3 heading into the fifth before the bats exploded. Caron's round tripper tied the game at seven before three bases-loaded walks and a two-run single by Jerome helped stake the Bison to a 15-7 lead. Valentin's bomb in the eighth sparked a five-run outburst and extended the lead to 19-8.
