After the Rain, Bison earn split with Golden Bears

DUDLEY, Mass. – Graduate student Alexandria Rodi smacked a three-run home run and drove in five for the Nichols College softball team, which split its home Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader with Western New England University Wednesday at the Nichols Softball Field.

Game One: Golden Bears 11, Bison 9

Graduate student Taylor Commesso hit her fourth home run of the season and finished the contest 2-for-3 with two RBI and runs scored. Rodi, meanwhile, laced a two-run single in the third and finished with a pair of hits while freshman Jayda Cesar went 2-for-4 with an RBI double. Senior Colleen Callahan picked up an RBI double.

Game Two: Bison 8, Golden Bears 5

Rodi's third home run of the season in the second staked the Bison to a 3-1 lead. In the fourth, back-to-back RBI singles from junior Samantha Kostek and sophomore Allie Brown extended the lead to 5-2 before Commesso doubled to center to plate both Brown and Kostek and make it 7-2. Callahan drove in her second run of the afternoon when she legged out an infield single in the sixth. Freshman Crystal Nelson started in the circle and allowed six hits and two runs (one earned) in 3.2 inning of work, falling one out shy of earning her first collegiate win. Junior Candice Nelson recorded the final 10 outs for the Bison, allowing three hits and three runs (two earned) with four strikeouts as she moved 8-5 on the season.
