Bison's amazing comeback against Gordon falls one point shy

DUDLEY, Mass. – Junior Jack Cowan continued his torrid scoring with a team-high 19 points in Nichols College's 84-83 loss to Gordon College Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Athletic Center.

The Bison found themselves behind by 32 points (70-38) with 12:44 remaining in the second half before closing the game on a 45-14 behind 13 points from Cowan, 12 from freshman Matt Lasalandra, and nine from freshman Bryson Andrews, including a steal and the game-tying layup with 1:24 remaining.

After the Fighting Scots took a four-point lead with 28 seconds remaining, Cowan knocked down his fifth triple of the game to cut it to one. Nichols had two chances to win the game in the final seconds, but both shot attempts missed the mark.

Lasalandra and junior Jason O'Regan each finished with 18 points while sophomore Junior Uga pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds to go with nine points, eight assists, two steals, and two blocks. The Bison shot 49 percent in the second half and forced 13 turnovers over the final 20 minutes.

Josh Crutchfield led Gordon with 19 points – including five 3-pointers – while Drew Thibeault registered 16 points and six rebounds. Overall, the Fighting Scots finished the afternoon with five student-athletes in double-figures and held a slim 51-49 edge on the glass.
