Tahmeen Dupree scored a career-high 20 points – including the go-ahead three-pointer 27 seconds into overtime – to lift the Nichols College men's basketball team to an 85-82 win over Trinity (CT) College Monday evening in non-conference action at the Nichols Athletic Center.
Senior
Jaekwon Spencer led all NC student-athletes with a season-high 25 points (9-of-18 FG) as the Bison rallied from a 19-point second-half deficit to stun the Bantams (5-3). Dupree, meanwhile, added five boards, three assists, and three steals while playing all 45 minutes. The New Britain, Conn. native knocked down 8-of-11 from the charity stripe as well as both of his three-point attempts, the second of which gave the Bison their first lead of the night in OT.
Junior
Jakigh Dottin played more than 43 minutes for Nichols head coach
Brock Erickson and filled the stat sheet with 20 points (6-of-6 FT), four boards, three dimes, and two steals, while graduate student
Matt Morrow chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds in 41 minutes of action.
Trailing 59-40 with 12:48 remaining in the second half, the Bison closed the stanza on 31-12 run to send the game to overtime. Dottin sparked the run with 10 points – including eight-straight at one point – while Dupree dropped in eight, the final two at the charity stripe with one second on the clock that tied the game at 71.
In overtime, Dupree's triple on the opening possession gave NC its first lead of the night at 74-71. After a layup from Morrow, Spencer hit one of two from the line before canning a triple to stretch the lead to five at 80-75. A jumper from Dottin with 53 seconds remaining restored a five-point lead at 82-77, and he closed the contest hitting three of four from the line.
Junior Charles Redd scored a team-high 25 points (8-of-10 FT) for the Bantams, who outrebounded the Bison 51-35.
