Men's basketball closes semester with comeback win at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – Junior Jakigh Dottin scored a team-high 20 points and senior Jaekwon Spencer added 18 as the Nichols College men's basketball team rallied past Tufts University 90-85 Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Cousens Gymnasium.

The Bison – who found themselves trailing 74-63 with 10:15 remaining in the second half – closed the game on a 27-11 run to move to 9-1 on the season and 3-1 all-time against the Jumbos (2-7). The contest marked the first for NC against former head coach Brandon Linton, who guided the Bison to the 2020 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship and a win over Stevens in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament before departing for Tufts last summer.

Dottin shot 9-of-11 from the field and added five rebounds, three assists, and two steals while Spencer canned three triples to go with six boards and two blocks. Graduate student Matt Morrow netted 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting and was one of six student-athletes to reach double-figures in scoring, joining graduate student Matt Alectus (12 points), freshman Tahmeen Dupree (12 points), and senior Jason O'Regan (11 points).

The Jumbos held a 45-39 halftime lead and remained in front of the Bison until O'Regan knocked down a three-pointer with 3:47 remaining in the second half to put his squad ahead 83-81. Later, Morrow converted a layup with 38 ticks on the clock to extend the lead to four before a pair of free throws from Alectus with 22 seconds remaining helped seal the win.

Nichols shot 54 percent from the field (32-of-59) and held a slim 40-39 edge on the glass.
