Bison win conference opener at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. – Senior Jaekwon Spencer netted 16 points in Nichols College's 67-66 win at Salve Regina University Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action at Rogers Recreation Center.

Graduate student Matt Morrow pulled down 12 rebounds to go with six points as the Bison (6-0, 1-0 CCC) have opened the season with six consecutive victories for the third-straight season. Classmate Matt Alectus came off the bench to score 15 points while recording four blocks.

The Seahawks (4-3, 0-1 CCC) held a 46-45 edge on the glass and led by as many as 14 points midway through the first half. Nichols freshman Tahmeen Dupree gave the Bison the lead for good with 4:06 remaining in the second half to put the Bison ahead 63-61. Alectus followed with a triple to extend the lead to five (65-61) with 2:39 to go.

Salve Regina clawed to within one and had a chance to win the game in the final seconds, but saw its three-point attempt land off the mark.
