Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Bison strike for two in third to sink UNE, 3-2

HARRIVILLE, R.I. – Sophomore Megan Buxton scored her sixth goal of the season midway through the third period to propel the Nichols College women's ice hockey team to a 3-2 win over the University of New England Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Levy Rink.

Graduate student Mel McAleer and junior Kaci Johnson also scored for the Bison (3-1-0, 1-1-0 CCC), who have opened the season with three wins in their first four contests for the second time in three years (2018-19). Freshman netminder Victoria Bakopanos stopped 29 of 31 shots to move to 2-0-0 on the season; she holds a .957 save pct. through her first two collegiate starts.

Buxton collected an assist on McAleer's goal while graduate student Kara Santoro and senior Isabella Portt also picked up apples. Freshman Melissa Montesi registered her first collegiate point as she set up Johnson's marker with a breakout pass from her own end.

The Nor'easters (1-1-0, 1-1-0 CCC) outshot the Bison 31-25 and went 2-for-3 with the extra attacker.
