Power play strikes for three goals in win over Seahawks

HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Senior Alicia Hunks scored a pair of power-play goals and classmate Isabella Portt collected three points as the Nichols College women's ice hockey team took down Salve Regina University 4-3 Friday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Levy Rink.

The Bison (4-1-0, 2-1-0 CCC) scored three goals with the extra attacker and improved to 6-1-2 in their last nine meetings with the Seahawks (0-4-0, 0-3-0 CCC). Sophomore Megan Buxton added a goal and an assist while junior netminder Julia Carroll stopped 25 shots to move to 2-1-0 on the season.

Nichols power play – which is clicking at a 33 percent clip thus far in 2021-22 (6-of-18) – stuck at 10:33 of the first and 3:00 of the second to grab a 2-0 lead. The Bison potted their third PP marker of the night at 9:17 of the second when Portt picked up her first of the season, giving them a 3-2 lead.

In the third, Buxton registered the only goal of the stanza as she converted a feed from Buxton at 3:21.
