Bison's late stampede leads Wellesley feeling Blue

DUDLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Summer Klein scored the go-ahead basket with 22 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter as the Nichols College women's basketball team rallied from an seven-point deficit in the closing minutes to stun Wellesley College 61-59 Tuesday night in non-conference action at the Nichols Athletic Center.

The Stamford, Connecticut native netted 18 of her game-high 25 points in the second half to go with five boards, two steals, and two dimes. Classmate Abrianna Vazquez filled the stat sheet with 15 points, seven steals, five assists, and three rebounds while senior Jillian Spillane pulled down 11 rebounds to go with two steals. Freshman Hadley Houghton came off the bench and chipped with 10 points (5-of-8 FG), six rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 30 minutes.

Vazquez knocked down a triple with 1:20 remaining in the fourth to bring the Bison to within four points (58-54). Klein followed with a layup 24 seconds later that made it a 58-56 contest before a layup by Vazquez with 30 ticks on the clock cut the Blue lead to one (59-58). Vazquez then stole the inbounds pass and fed Klein for a jumper that gave NC a 60-59 lead with 22 seconds remaining.

The Bison (3-2) forced 40 turnovers and pulled out the win despite being outrebounded 56-40. Wellesley (0-3) shot 43 percent from the field compared to 32 percent for the Bison.
