WORCESTER, Mass. – The Nichols College men's ice hockey team rallied from a two-goal, third-period deficit to down Anna Maria College 4-3 in a shootout to capture the inaugural Worcester Mayor's Cup Sunday night at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.
Junior
Austan Bellefeuille scored the only goal of the shootout and classmate
Korbinian Lutz denied both AMCat shooters as the Bison opened the season 1-0-1.
Sophomores
Quinn McCarthy and
Dylan McMahon, along with freshman
Nathan Carl, scored third-period goals to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead. The AMCats (1-0-1) tied the game in the closing seconds to force OT, where neither team scored.
McCarthy and senior
Petr Miko were named to the All-Tournament Team while Lutz was named Tournament MVP.
