DUDLEY, Mass. – Former Nichols College men's ice hockey student-athlete
David Chevrier has signed a professional contract with Elephants de Chambery, a member of the Fédération Française de Hockey sur Glace (FFHG) Division I in France.
A native of Baie-d'Urfe, Quebec, Chevrier wore an 'A' for head coach
Parker Burgess this past season and skated in all 27 games, recorded a career-high nine points (3-6-9) – all of which came during the final 13 games of the season. He collected five points during a five-game point streak from February 13 to February 26 as the Bison recorded at least one point in 12 straight games (10-2-0) to qualify for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) playoffs. Nichols went on to defeat Salve Regina in overtime in the CCC Quarterfinals before falling to eventual conference champion Endicott in the Semifinals in OT.
"It has been a goal and dream of mine to play professionally overseas since joining a national championship contender at Nichols four years ago," said Chevrier. "Through the connections I made at Nichols, I was fortunate enough to have some people go to bat for me, and I was presented with the opportunity to play professionally. I'm very excited to take what I have learned as a Bison and apply it to helping my team win in France."
Chevrier – who chipped in with 11 points (1-10-11) during the Bison's 2017-18 CCC Championship season – appeared in 94 games during his career at NC, collecting 25 points on seven goals and 18 assists. He assisted on the GWG in the conference championship game at the University of New England on March 3, 2018.
"We are thrilled for 'Chevy' to achieve his dream to play professional hockey," said Nichols head coach
Parker Burgess. "What a great opportunity and experience to not only be able to play pro hockey, but to get to do it overseas in Europe. 'Chevy' brought passion, skill, grit, and leadership to our program for four years. He leaves a lasting legacy here at Nichols and was a tremendous teammate and role model. We are excited to follow his journey and the coaching staff is planning to make a trip over to France to visit him."
Chevier becomes the third member of the Class of 2020 to ink a professional contract, joining teammates
J.B. Baker (Knoxville Ice Bears, SPHL) and
Hogan Davidson (Huntsville Havoc, SPHL).
