Game Recap: Softball |

Nichols falls to Heidelberg, Clarkson

CLERMONT, Fla. – Sophomore Mackenzie Bourgault drove in a pair of runs for the Nichols College softball team, which dropped a pair of games at the PFX Spring Games Saturday at Hancock Field. The Bison (1-3) were defeated by Heidelberg (2-0) and Clarkson (8-6).

Senior Alexis Ferris held the Student Princes (9-3) scoreless until the sixth, when she surrendered a two-run home run. She closed the contest having allowed six hits and two runs over six innings of work, walking four and fanning one. Senior Alexandria Rodi and junior Colleen Callahan each recorded a hit for NC.

In the nightcap against the Golden Knights (5-3), the Bison rallied back from a 7-0 deficit to make it 7-5 behind a pair of RBI from Bourgault, a sac fly off the bat of Rodi, an RBI from freshman Maeve McNeil, and a wild pitch which allowed sophomore Samantha Kostek to score. Later, a sac bunt from freshman Allie Brown made it a two-run game at 8-6.

Sophomore Candice Nelson suffered the loss, allowing four hits and five runs (four earned) in 2.2 innings of work. She walked two and struck out one. Freshman Alyssa Ouellette pitched the final 4.1 innings and gave up six hits and three runs (two earned) while walking one and striking out one.

Prior to the start of the Heidelberg contest, the Bison honors graduate student Jessica Kuelling, along with seniors Ferris, Rode, Taylor McIntosh, Cara Mayhew, Katrina Valeri, Amanda Alioto, and Taylor Commesso for their contributions to the softball program.

The Bison wrap the 2020 campaign on Sunday with games against Bridgewater State (10:00 a.m.) and Keuka (12:15 p.m.)
