Recap
Junior
Christian Naccari belted his first homer of the season and drove in two runs as the Nichols College baseball team rallied to defeat Massachusetts Maritime 14-12 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
The Bison (4-2) and the Buccaneers (2-2) combined for 26 runs and 34 hits in a very offense heavy affair. Nichols held a 3-0 lead after one inning of play, before MMA put up a five spot in the top of the second inning to propel themselves into the lead. The top of the second was highlighted by a two RBI single from Joe Sanchez, which at the time gave the Buccaneers the 5-3 lead.
The Bison came storming back with a three-run bottom of the fifth, led by an RBI single from freshman
Brad Ellis, and a pinch-hit sacrifice fly from senior
Ryan Nesbit as the Bison knotted the game at seven apiece. Mass. Maritime then proceeded to put up another five-spot in the top of the sixth, giving them a late 12-7 lead.
Naccari then belted his two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to help chip away at the five-run deficit. Sophomore
DJ Caron, who collected a team-high three hits in the game (3-for-6), drove in Ellis on a single through the right side in the seventh inning to cut the Buccaneers lead down to just three. After sophomore
Brendan Duffy came in and shut the Buccaneers down in the top of the eighth inning the Bison proceeded to score four runs in the bottom of the eighth, led by a huge two RBI double from freshman
Michael Sobolewski that gave the Bison the late 14-12 lead.
