Nichols rolls past Roger Williams

Sophomore Jaekwon Spencer poured in a career-high 29 points in Nichols College's 92-77 win over Roger Williams University Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action at the Recreation Center Gymnasium in Bristol, R.I.
 
The Bristol, Conn. native shot 9-of-13 from the field and also recorded five rebounds, four steals, three dimes, and two blocks. Seniors DeAnte Bruton and Kash Jackson each netted 16 points while junior Matt Morrow recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards while sophomore Jason O'Regan chipped in with 11 points in 17 minutes of action.
 
Spencer scored 17 points in the first half as the Bison (16-8, 11-4 CCC) carried a five-point lead to the locker room (39-34). He and Jackson then combined for 29 second-half points to help NC shoot 54 percent from the field and secure their fifth-consecutive win.
 
Sophomore Eli Harris scored a team-high 21 points for the Hawks (14-10, 6-9 CCC). Junior Doug Hostetler added 17 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.
 
Three things you need to know...
            -Tonight's contest marked the 55th all-time meeting between Nichols College and Roger Williams University. The Bison extended their win streak to 15 games and their lead in the series to 35-21.
            -The Hawks held a 36-33 edge on the glass but committed 23 turnovers which led to 22 fast break points for the Bison.
            -Bruton now has 2,152 points, which is second only to former teammate Marcos Echevarria '19 in program history.
