Hawks pull away from Bison

Nichols College freshman Alexis Finnerty scored 17-points as the Nichols College women's basketball team fell to Roger Williams 62-50 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Thursday night at the Nichols Athletics Center in Dudley, Massachusetts.

The Bison were led offensively by Finnerty who scored 17 (6-of-11 FG) points, including three shots from beyond the arc while also pulling down three boards and dishing out three assists. Junior Isabella Nerney ended up fouling out with two minutes left in the foruth quarter but was the second leading socrer for Nichols with 13 points (5-of-16 FG) while also picking up four rebounds and two assists. Nerney and Finnerty both had six points apiece at the half, as the Bison were leading 25-24 going into the break.

The Hawks however, responded strong in the third quarter, outscoring the Bison 19-8 to pull away with the lead. The Hawks were led by Karli Opalka who scored a game-high 23 points (8-of-15 FG) while also pulling dow six boards in 31 minutes of play. Gabby Jerahian was the other Hawk I double-digits with 14 points (4-of-12 FG), to go along with three rebounds and three assists.
 
Three things you need to know…
-Roger Williams student-athlete Sam Leone led all players with 11 rebounds, and nearly picking up a double-double with her nine points.
-Nichols hit six shots from beyond the arc compared to Roger William's three.
-Today's game marked the 50th meeting all-time between the two programs.
