The Nichols College men's basketball team was defeated by Salve Regina University 76-70 Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Rodgers Recreation Center.

DeAnte Bruton managed to score 19 points – all in the second half – but faced constant double-teams all night and shot 8-of-24 from the field. The New London, Conn. Native also collected seven assists and six rebounds in 37 minutes. Junior

Junior Cameron Collins led all student-athletes with 26 points (10-of-15 FG) for the Seahawks (7-9, 4-4 CCC). Classmate Kevin Kelly filled the stat sheet with 20 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists as SRU shot 57 percent from the field – including 60 percent in the first half – and overcame 20 turnovers to notch their first win over the Bison since January 4, 2014.
The Seahawks led by 10 points at the halftime and extended their lead to 14 early in the second half. The Bison (11-6, 6-2 CCC) stormed back to climb to within four (60-56) with less than six minutes remaining behind back-to-back layups form Bruton and one from Morrow. Salve Regina answered with a 7-0 run to push the lead to 11 (67-56) with 2:44 to go.
Three things you need to know...
-Tonight's contest marked the 55th all-time meeting between Nichols College and Salve Regina University. The Seahawks snapped the Bison's 12-game winning streak but they still trail the series, 29-26.
-Salve Regina attempted only nine 3-pointers on the evening (two makes) while the Seahawks shot 7-of-27 from downtown (26 percent).
-The Seahawks outrebounded the Bison 46-29 behind 13 from sophomore Chris Peasley.
