Nichols rolls past Curry in Saturday matinee

Senior Joseph Sekator scored a career-high 20 points in Nichols College's 99-78 win over Curry College Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action at the Nichols Athletic Center.
 
Sekator knocked down four 3-pointers and finished the contest 8-of-14 from the field as the Bison (11-5, 6-1 CCC) shot 49 percent from the field and earned their fourth win in their last five outings. Junior Nate Tenaglia netted 20 points and dished out five assists while senior DeAnte Bruton – who was honored prior to tip-off for scoring his 2,000th career point earlier this week – collected 15 points, five steals, and four dimes.
 
Senior Daymeann Stewart led all student-athletes with 25 points (9-of-24 FG) while classmate Jared Thorpe-Johnson netted 23 points for the Colonels (4-12, 0-7 CCC). The visitors shot 46 percent from behind the arc and outrebounded the Bison, 48-33; freshman Michael Ashley pulled down a game-high 13.
 
The Bison led by 17 at halftime behind 15 from Bruton and extended the lead to as many as 25 in the second half.
 
Three things you need to know...
            -Today's contest marked the 70th all-time meeting between Nichols College and Curry College. The Bison have won the last 13 meetings and now lead the series, 37-33.
            -The Colonels committed 21 turnovers which led to 30 Nichols points.
            -Junior Matt Morrow was 7-of-8 from the floor and finished with 15 points and five boards.
