Bison edge Nor'easters on the road

Senior DeAnte Bruton led five Nichols College student-athletes in double-figures with 28 points in a 90-85 win at the University of New England Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action in Biddeford, Maine.
 
Sophomore Jaekwon Spencer added 14 points, six boards, and three blocks while junior Nate Tenaglia chipped in with 13 points as the Bison (10-4) ran their win streak to three and moved to 5-0 in conference play. Sophomore Tyren Clark collected 11 points while sophomore Jason O'Regan nearly recorded his first collegiate double-double, finishing with 10 points and eight boards.
 
Nichols received a total of 27 points from their bench and shot 44 percent on the afternoon – including 22-of-34 from the free throw line. The Bison also held a slim 43-42 edge on the glass behind the combined efforts of O'Regan and Spencer. The pair helped fill in for junior Matt Morrow, who is averaging a team-leading 12.7 rpg and did not play.
 
Siddiq Canty poured in a team-high 22 for the Nor'easters (7-7, 2-4 CCC). Alex Kravchuk finished with 21 points while Avery DeBrito posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. UNE shot 43 percent from the field.
 
Three things you need to know…
            -Today's contest marked the 30th all-time meeting between Nichols College and the University of New England. The Bison have won the last four meeting and now lead the series, 25-5.
            -Nichols is 5-0 in CCC play for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign, when the Bison won their first six conference games to open the season.
            -Clark's 11 points is a career-high, surpassing his previous high of nine at Hamilton last month.
