BIDDEFORD, Maine – Junior Taylor Commesso launched a three-run home run for the No. 6 seed Nichols College softball team, which was defeated by No. 2 seed University of New England 11-3 Thursday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) playoff action. The Bison will now face No. 4 Salve Regina in an elimination game at Gordon tomorrow at 11 a.m.

The Bison (17-18-1) led 3-0 after taking their turn at bat in the top of the first, but the Nor'easters (25-14) put up a crooked number in the bottom of the frame to move in front 4-3. Anna Sessa accounted for two of the UNE runs with a single to center.

The Nor'easters (24-15) pushed across four more run in the second to grab an 8-3 lead, highlighted by a two-single off the bat of Andrea Gosper. They added single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth to close out the game.

Junior Alexis Ferris started for the Bison and was tagged for eight hits and seven runs (six earned) in one-plus inning of work. She struck out a pair to move into sole possession of first place on the college's all-time strikeout list with 396.

Sydnee Bessler allowed three runs on five hits in five innings to earn the win for UNE. She walked one and struck out four.
