WENHAM, Mass. – The Nichols College softball program was eliminated from the 2019 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) playoffs with a 7-0 loss to No. 4 seed Salve Regina University Friday morning at Gordon College.

The No. 6 seed Bison (17-19-1) were held to four hits, including one by freshman and CCC Third Team selection Samantha Kostek. Junior Alexis Ferris got the start in the circle and allowed three hits and three runs in three innings of work. She walked one and struck out three. Freshman Candice Nelson came on in the fourth and surrendered five hits and four runs (three earned) with one walk and one strikeout.

Junior Maddie Machado staked the Seahawks (22-19) to a 1-0 lead with a home run in the first before they struck for three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead. Freshman Nikki Vanelli smacked a two-run home run in the fourth and sophomore Jaycee Garrigan plated two runs with a single in the fifth.

Sophomore Andi Nelson fanned eight over seven innings to earn her 16th win of the season for Salve Regina.
