Bison sweep away Owls

The Nichols College softball team swept its non-conference doubleheader from Westfield State University Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Softball Field.
 
Game One – Nichols 9, Westfield St. 1
The Bison scored five times in the second inning and cruised to victory. Sophomore Cassidy Aiello picked up two RBI while junior Amanda Alioto recorded two hits, scored twice, and drove in one. Senior Jessica Kuelling, juniors Taylor McIntosh and Cara Mayhew, and sophomore Colleen Callahan all picked up one RBI to back junior starter Alexis Ferris, who allowed three hits and one run while striking out four.
 
Game Two – Nichols 6, Westfield St. 3
Junior Katrina Valeri opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second before Mayhew and Aiello plated runs in the third to stretch the lead to 3-0. In the fifth, Aiello laced an RBI single and later scored on a throwing error. Freshman Candice Nelson held the Owls to six hits and one run over five to record her fourth win of the season.

None of the five runs the Bison scored in the second inning of game one crossed home plate as a result of a hit or sacrifice.
