Bison sweep Leopards

Recap
The Nichols College baseball team swept a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) games against Wentworth Saturday afternoon at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Game 1 – Nichols 16, Wentworth 11 (11 inn.)

The Bison (16-12, 5-5 CCC) outlasted the Leopards (7-19, 2-7 CCC) in an eleven-inning slugfest.

Nichols held the lead at three different points in the game, however the winning hits came in the top of the eleventh inning. Graduate student Chris Anderson took the lead following a walk with the bases loaded. Sophomore Riley Parent capitalized on the bases loaded situation with a monster grand slam to left field that brought the score out of reach for Wentworth.

Sophomore Justin Hurley got the start for the Bison, however he only lasted two innings giving up four runs on three hits and a walk, while striking out one. Classmate Robert Cobb got the win in relief, recording 3.1 shutout innings where he gave up one hit and struck out one batter.

Game 2 – Nichols 2, Wentworth 0

Following the slugfest in the first game, Nichols won a second game pitchers' duel.

The lone runs of the game came in the second and seventh innings on a solo shot by freshman David Caron and an RBI bunt single by Parent.

Junior Jack Dicenso pitched nine lights out innings for the Bison, giving up only four hits and one free pass while racking up 10 strikeouts. Trouble came in the ninth following a double and a single by the Leopards, but three straight strikeouts at the hand of Dicenso ended the threat.

Three things you need to know…
-Dicenso's ten strikeouts are the most by a single pitcher this season.
-Parent had a career high five RBI in the first game.
-The last complete game shut out by a Nichols pitcher was 4/23/17 by Vincent Amato against Curry College.
