Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Bison hold off Blazers to move to 2-0

Recap
Senior Kirsten Sullivan scored five goals to propel the Nichols College women's lacrosse team to a 17-15 win over Elms College in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Vendetti Field.

Junior Danielle Kozloski added four tallies and senior McKayla Pratte netted a career-high three goals as the Bison opened the season 2-0 for the first time since 2014. Junior Molly Steen played the first half for the Bison and stopped nine shots to earn her first collegiate win.

Nichols opened the game by scoring the first four goals – including two from Pratte – to take the early lead.  The Blazers ripped off the next four to pull even 12 minutes into the game before a three-goal spurt by the Bison to close the half gave them a 9-8 lead.

Goals form Sullivan, Kozloski, Pratte, and junior Miranda Smith to open the second half extended the Bison lead to 13-8. Three more second-half markers from Kozloski helped NC hold off the Blazers, who held a 34-29 edge in shots.

Sullivan and freshman Claire Matlak each registered four draw controls. Junior Haley Richard scored a game-high seven goals for Elms (2-1), giving her 19 on the season.

Quote
"Elms is a well-coached team that has improved drastically over the past few years. I'm proud of our student-athletes for not giving up when they went on runs, but instead staying in the game and competing. We made some errors throughout the game that we will continue to work on and make sure we are getting better for our next game against Lasell." –Nichols head coach Melissa Rausch
