The Nichols College baseball team defeated Massachusetts Maritime 12-1 Monday afternoon in a non-conference game at Hendy Field in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts.
Junior Christian Naccari (2-for-5) led the offense with a three-run homerun to break open the game for the Bison (2-4) in the top of the fifth inning. Naccari picked up two more RBI in the seventh following a two-run double for a team-leading five RBI on the day. Junior Kyle Bouchard filled the box score going 1-for-3 with one run, two RBI and two walks, while freshman David Caron went 1-for-2 with three runs scored, one RBI and two free passes.
The Buccaneers scored their lone run when Senior Paul Sances drew a walk with the bases in the bottom of the fifth.
Freshman Kyle Desjardins took the mound for his first collegiate start, recording 3 solid innings giving up 3 hits and striking out one. Junior Andrew Charbonneau was credited with the win going 1.1 innings with two strikeouts and one earned run.
Three things you need to know…
- The Bison drew nine walks, the most in a game this season.
- Naccari's three-run shot in the top of the fifth was the second of his career and the first since his freshman year.
- Today's game marked the 14th all-time meeting between the two ball clubs, the Bison now hold a 10-4 advantage over the Buccaneers.
