Judges overrule Bison

Recap
The Nichols College baseball team fell to Brandeis University 17-14 Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Massachusetts.

Freshman David Caron started the scoring for the Bison (2-5) after hitting his first collegiate home run to straight away center field to tie the game at one in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore Nathaniel Cormier responded in the bottom of the second with his own two-run shot to right field to tie the game at three apiece. Junior Kyle Bouchard continued the scoring in the third with a two RBI single to bring the lead to 5-4. Following an error by the Judges' center fielder, sophomore Riley Parent drove in two runs to extend the lead in the third to 7-4. Freshman Kyle Desjardins took a pitch over the right center wall for a three RBI to cut the deficit to three in the fifth inning. Junior Christian Naccari capped the scoring on the day when he hit his second home run in as many days in the eighth inning to bring the score to 17-14.

Brandeis (3-1) sophomore Luke Hall got the Judges off to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when he hit an RBI double to center field that brought the score to 1-0. Following the Nichols response in the bottom of the inning, sophomores Alex Parrot and Scott Ziegler each hit a solo shot to bring the score to 3-1. Classmate Dan Frey capitalized on a bases loaded situation in the fourth by depositing a grand slam over the right-center wall to regain the lead. The Judges sent 10 batters to the plate in the fifth, picking up five runs to bring their lead to six. Freshman Christian Petrisko earned the win following a two-inning performance where he gave up four runs on two hits and three walks.

Freshman Brendan Duffy started the game for the Bison, going just 1.1 innings, after giving up three runs on six hits including two solo home runs. Senior Tony Martignoli was on the hook for the loss after giving up two runs on three hits, one walk, and one strikeout through 0.2 innings.

Three things you need to know…
- The Bison's three home runs are tied for third most in a game for Nichols. The last time this happened was March 19, 2010 against Hilbert College.
- Naccari has hit home runs in back-to-back games. He now has two home runs and nine RBI on the year.
- Today's contest marks the 10th all-time meeting between Nichols and Brandeis. The Judges extend their lead in the matchup to 7-3 with today's win.
