Raiders Clip Bison, 8-7

Recap
The Nichols College men's lacrosse team lost to Rivier 8-7 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Raider Field in Nashua, New Hampshire.

The Raiders (1-0) outscored the Bison (1-1) in the first quarter 4-3 with the help of two goals from sophomore attacker Dylan McSparren. The Bison scored first with a goal from senior Casey Campanale with an assist from senior Jack Campanale. McSparren then went on to net back-to-back unassisted goals to give the Raiders the 2-1 advantage before seniors Chris Pennie and Colby Larsen netted two more goals to open the Raiders lead to 4-1, both Pennie and Larsen's goals were assisted by senior midfielder A.J. Gearin. Nichols sophomore Jeffrey Wenzel, coming off a four goal game against St. Joseph's (ME) netted two of his three goals in the final two minutes of the first quarter to bring the Bison back to within one goal.

The two teams would each trade two goals apiece in the second quarter including goals from sophomore Brendan Coates and junior Hugh O'Donnell. Coates goal his fifth of the season was assisted by freshman Connor Santoni. Rivier shutout Nichols in the third quarter while scoring two goals to give them the 8-5 advantage going into the fourth quarter. The Bison did the same to the Raiders in the fourth quarter, shutting them out while picking up two unassisted goals from Wenzel and Coates. However, the Bison would fall just shy and drop their first game of the season.
 
Three things you need to know…
-McSparren led all players with five points on three goals and two assists.
-Wenzel picked up three more goals giving him a team-high seven goals through the first two games on the season.
-Despite the loss the Bison outshot the Raiders 39-20.
