Bison, Hawks split weekend series

Recap
Junior Mel McAleer notched two goals for the Bison in their 4-2 loss to Becker College in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) action at Levy Rink in Harrisville, Rhode Island.

The Hawks (3-7-0, 2-6-0 CHC) scored first at the 18:52 mark in the first period with an unassisted goal from Nikki DeCola to give the Hawks the 1-0 lead going into the first intermission. Nichols (2-6-2, 1-4-1 CHC) responded quickly in the second period with two goals from McAleer just three minutes apart. Her first coming at the 4:24 mark on the power-play with assists from freshman Katheryn Pettibone and junior Alicia Hunks. Less then three minutes later McAleer gave the Bison the 2-1 lead with her team leading ninth goal of the season with a helper from Pettibone.

Becker came back though with a power-play goal of their own in the third period from Julia Ravenelle to tie the game at two goals apiece. Exactly three minutes later the Hawks took back the lead with an unassisted goal from Shelby Reaugh, putting back a shot off her own rebound to propel Becker into the lead. Nichols pulled junior Abby Bassett from net with two minutes to play as a last-ditch effort to tie the game, but Becker scored on the empty net to secure the 4-2 conference win.

Three things you need to know…
-McAleer's two goals gives her 13 points on the season which is tied for the CHC lead and her nine goals is good for first in the conference.
