Isabella Nerney poured in a career-high 36 points and broke the single game record with eight three-pointers made in Nichols College's 70-62 win over Clark University in non-conference women's basketball action at Kneller Athletic Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The Bison (3-5) picked up their second-straight win, improving to 2-0 on the week with the help of Nerney who filled the stat sheet dropping 36 points (10-of-20 FG) including eight from beyond the arc, grabbing eight boards and serving up three assists. Freshman
Alexis Finnerty did her part by following up her 18-point performance against Wentworth with 22 points (8-of-20 FG) today to go along with three boards and three assists. Freshman
Gina Parmenter pitched in as well picking up a team-high nine rebounds and dropping in four points.
Nichols jumped out to an early 22-19 lead after just one quarter of play, led by 17 points alone from Nerney before Clark (3-6) pulled into a one-point halftime lead with a score of 36-37. Finnerty scored 18 of her 22 in the second half to help power the Bison to the 70-62 win. The Cougars were led by three student-athletes that scored in double-figures, Hannah Favaloro (16), Emily Sifferlen (13) and Hallie Johnson (12). Johnson and Favaloro both filled the stat sheet adding in 12 rebounds apiece to pick up double-doubles.
Three things you need to know…
-Nerney's eight three-pointers made breaks the program record of seven, which was previously held by current head coach
MaryLynn Skarzenski and Nerney who hit seven against Salve-Regina last season.
-Nerney's 36 points in today's game is good for the second-most points scored in a game in program history. The current record is 40 from Lisa Gionet in 1987.
-Through eight games, Finnerty leads the team with 128 points scored.
Quote
"That was a good win on the road. We stayed mentally tough and focused when they went on a run. Izzy shot the ball extremely well and her teammates got her great looks." -Nichols head coach
