Nichols downs Leopards in conference opener

Skarzenski wins 100th Career Game

Freshman Alexis Finnerty scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Nichols College women's basketball team to a 69-62 win over Wentworth Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Nichols Athletic Center.

The Leopards came out hot in the first quarter opening up to a 21-7 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Bison however, came storming back in the second quarter led by junior Isabella Nerney who dropped in eight first half points and finished the game with 15 points and six rebounds. Freshman Gina Parmenter also scored eight first half points as Nichols came back strong and outscored Wentworth 22-12 in the second frame, going into the half down 33-29.

Finnerty went on to score 16 of her 18 points in the second half, while also grabbing four rebounds and one assist. The freshman led the charge for Nichols as they outscored Wentworth 40-29 in the second half, paving the way for their first CCC win of the season. He Leopards were led by Lyric Campbell who picked up 11 points and six rebounds, as well as Molley Duclos who grabbed a double-double, scoring 11 points and bringing down 11 rebounds.
 
Three things you need to know…
-Nichols has now won their last two conference openers. Beating salve 51-50 last year on Nov. 28, 2018.
-The Bison have now snapped a two game losing skid to the Leopards and lead the all-time series 18-17.
-Senior Desiree Rivera had a team-high eight rebounds for Nichols.
