Nichols downs Wentworth in CCC opener

Recap
Senior DeAnte Bruton poured in a game-high 28 points in Nichols College's 72-64 win over Wentworth Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action at the Nichols Athletic Center.

Junior Matt Morrow added 20 points, 11 boards and two steals for the No. 7-ranked Bison (6-0), who are now 6-0 for the second-straight season. Classmate Nate Tenaglia filled the stat sheet with eight points, four rebounds, three dimes and a pair of steals in 35 minutes of action. Nichols has won its last five conference openers, dating back to 2015.

Sophomore Kevin Fernandez came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points (4-of-11 FG) and was one of five WIT student-athletes in double-figures, along with senior Stephen Azums, juniors Trey Carrier and Tyler Lennon, and freshman Jack Schaake, each of whom scored 10 points.

The Bison led wire-to-wire and shot 49 percent from the field (32-of-65). They turned 18 turnovers into 21 points and won despite only going to the charity stripe seven times, compared to 18 for the Leopards.

Three things you need to know...
-Tonight's contest marked the 51st all-time meeting between Nichols College and Wentworth. The Bison have won 13 of the last 14 meetings and lead the series, 29-22.
-Morrow recorded his fourth double-double of the season and the 25th of his career in 66 games.
-Bruton's 20-point game marked his third such effort of the season. He scored 18 of his points in the second half.
