Mel McAleer picked up a goal and two assists in the Nichols College's women's ice hockey 5-5 tie with Suffolk Friday evening in Boston, Massachusetts.
The Rams and Bison both scored late in the first period with Suffolk getting on the board first with a goal from Sydney Tietz. The Bison wasted no time answering back just 48 seconds later when freshman
Kayla Currin notched her first collegiate goal with assists from freshman
Kaci Johnson and senior
Ashley Ljunggren. Nichols scored two more times in the first 10 minutes of the second period to take the 3-1 lead with goals from sophomore
Rebecca Taylor and freshman
Sarah Zeidan. Taylor's goal was her first collegiate goal as well.
Suffolk went on to score three unanswered goals to round out the second period and take a 4-3 lead into the third frame. Sophomore
Alicia Hunks scored a power-play goal three minutes into the third period to tie the game at four apiece. The Rams retook the lead at the 7:10 mark with a goal from Haley Poloskey. McAleer then notched her team-leading fourth goal of the season and third point of the night to tie the game at five apiece and ultimately force the 5-5 tie after a scoreless overtime period.
