Game Recap: Football |

Eagles too much for Bison

Recap
Freshman Kevin Diaz scored his first collegiate touchdown in Nichols College's 31-7 loss to Husson University Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Football action at Vendetti Field.

The Eagles (3-5, 3-2 CCC) outgained the Bison 482-155 and forced three turnovers as the Bison saw their two-game winning streak snapped. Senior quarterback David Morrison threw for 256 yards and three scores – all to junior Tyler Halls, who caught 11 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns (63, 16, 21).

Husson held the ball for 22:17 in the first half as the Bison managed to accumulate just 71 yards of total offense, yet trailed by just three points (10-7) at the break. Nichols closed the half with a 10-play, 80-yard drive that Diaz polished off with a 21-yard TD reception.

The Bison opened the second half with the ball and drove to the Husson 11-yard line, only to see the snap muffed on a field goal attempt. Later in the stanza, Morrison connected with Hall for the first of his three scores to extend the lead to 17-7. A Bison turnover on the ensuing possession led to a 16-yard Halls TD catch that made it 24-7 in favor the Eagles.

Senior QB Michael Pina was sacked five times and finished the afternoon 16-of-31 for 122 yards and one touchdown; he also lost a pair of fumbles, one on a strip sack. Senior Chris Lawrence led Nichols with 12 tackles (four solo) while classmate Michael Spraulding blocked a punt in the fourth quarter.

Junior Kaleb Caron led the Eagles with seven tackles (four solo).

Three things you need to know...
-Today's contest marked the inaugural meeting between Nichols College and Husson University. The Eagles now lead the series, 1-0.
-Senior Tony Martignoli moved into sole possession of No. 2 on the all-time receptions list with 128. He is also No. 3 in career receiving yards with 1,822.
            - Junior Dylan McNamara intercepted a Robinson pass in the endzone late in the second quarter, giving him picks in each of his last two games. McNamara has three for his career.
