The Nichols College women's ice hockey team opened up the 2019-20 campaign with a 2-1 overtime loss to Aurora University Friday night at Levy Rink in Burrilville, Rhode Island.
The Bison (0-1-0) opened up the scoring midway through the first period with a power-play goal from junior
Mel McAleer to give the Bison the 1-0 advantage. Freshman
Sarah Zeidan and
Kaci Johnson both picked up assists on McAleer's goal to give them their first career points.
The game remained 1-0 until the third period when Lexie Martinez of the Spartans scored a shorthanded goal at the 15:13 mark to tie the game at a goal apiece. Taylor Sims was credited with the lone assist. The game went to overtime where the Spartans wasted no time finding the back of the net as Taylor Sims picked up her first goal of the season to give the Spartans the 2-1 win just 1:49 into the overtime period.

-This was the first all-time meeting between the two programs.
-The Bison scored the lone power-play goal in the game, going 1-for-4 on the night.
-The Spartans outshot the Bison 43-31 in the contest.
