Leonardi, Settiwongse make history with Bison win

Recap
The Nichols College women's tennis team defeated Roger Williams University 8-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Friday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts in Bristol, Rhode Island.

The Bison (8-1, 6-0 CCC) started off strong by sweeping all three doubles matches, highlighted by a historic win for senior Isabelle Leonardi who with today's 8-6 win at the No. 1 doubles position broke the program record for doubles victories with 69 in her career. The Bison went on to pick up five wins in singles play to take the 8-1 victory.

Senior Amarie Settiwongse also had an historic day, as she now sits alone on top of the singles wins record for a career with 61 total after defeating Alessia Cahoon 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles spot. The Hawks (10-1, 5-1 CCC) picked up their lone win at the No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 7-6 victory from Emma Place.

Quote
"I'm incredibly proud of the way the ladies performed today. RWU is a tough place to play and they came in playing very well. In doubles we really got off to a hot start. Lindsey and Kara at the No. 3 played their best match to date together. It was great to see the top pairs follow suit with solid wins. Many deserve credit in singles. Meg was dominant as was Amie. Rachel played another solid match and Juli fought her tail off. Izzy Leonardi deserves so much credit for the level of fight. She saved a remarkable 15 set points before dropping the first set. She then took over in the second and closed out the breaker. She didn't have her best game but she really led the way with her effort. On a larger note, congratulations to Izzy and Amie as they now sit alone atop the record books. They aren't alone in rewriting our history as several of the ladies have moved their way up the ladder. What a truly spectacular group." -Nichols head coach Paul Brower
