Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Bison sink Pilgrims, 6-0

Recap
Senior Kelly Ferreira and sophomore McKenna Gernander each scored twice and senior Cassandra Goyette stopped all 26 shots she faced as the Nichols College women's ice hockey team skated to a 6-0 win over New England College Saturday night in non-conference action at Warrior Ice Arena.

Sophomore Jordyn McGuire chipped in with a pair of assists for the Bison (8-2-3) while junior Ashley Ljunggren potted the game-winning goal, her first of the season. Freshman Abby Lueken collected a goal and an assist as nine different student-athletes recorded at least one point.

Cianna Weir started in goal for the Pilgrims (2-12-1) and was pulled in the second period after allowing four goals on 19 shots. Tara Turcotte led NEC with six shots – including a penalty shot in the first period that Goyette turned aside.

Ljunggren opened the scoring just 1:24 into the contest. Goals by Ferreira, Lueken, and in the second skated the home team to a 4-0 lead, and goals from Gernander and Ferreira in the third capped the scoring.

Three things you need to know...
-Tonight's contest marked the 16th all-time meeting between Nichols College and New England College. The Bison have won the last two meetings and three of the last five, and now trail the series 11-5-0.
-Goyette's shutout was her second of the season and of her career.
-The Bison scored at least two power play goals in a contest for the fifth time this season, finishing the night 2-for-5 with the man advantage.
