The Nichols College women's hockey team lost to SUNY Cortland 2-1 in non-conference action Friday night at Levy Rink in Harrisville, Rhode Island.
The Red Dragons (5-5-3) struck first in the second period when junior Carly Weigold potted her third goal of the season with help from freshman Teryn Field and sophomore Olivia Wilburn. Nichols (8-3-3) Struck back just 27 seconds later when freshman 
Katelyn Joyal beat the senior goalie Victoria Gibson to tie the game at a goal apiece. Senior 
Kelly Ferreira collected the lone assist on the Bison's only goal of the night.
SUNY Cortland finally broke the 1-1 tie at the 9:41 marker in the third period when senior defenseman Katy Kennedy potted her first goal of the season to push the Red Dragons into the lead. Red Dragons freshman Quinn Metcalfe and sophomore Katelinn Cummings both picked up assists on the game winning goal.
 
Three things you need to know…
-After a 5-5 effort on the penalty kill tonight for the Bison, they stand No. 6 in the nation on the PK with at a 93.5% clip.
-The Bison were outshot 38-24.
-This was the third all-time meeting between the two programs.
