Bison skate past Mustangs

Recap
The Nichols College women's ice hockey team defeated Stevenson University 3-1 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Levy Rink in Harrisville, Rhode Island.

The Bison (9-6-3) bounced back quickly after their loss last night with back-to-back goals in the first period. The first goal came from sophomore Nicole Cowan at the 14:43 mark in the first period. Freshman Abby Lueken and junior Emily Eagan both picked up assists on the goal. Less than a minute later, sophomore Mel McAleer potted her eighth goal of the season with a helper from senior Kelly Ferreira, her eighth.

The Mustangs (6-10-1) responded in the second period with an unassisted power-play goal from senior Kellen Wittman, her 14th of the season. Seven minutes later, Nichols freshman Isabella Portt padded the lead with a goal of her own with the help of McAleer and Ferreira. The Mustangs pulled junior goalie Annie Smyth-Hammond with 1:46 remaining in the third period but the Bison defense was too strong.
