Gull slip past Bison in overtime

Recap
The Nichols College men's soccer program lost to Endicott College 2-1 Saturday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Vendetti Field in Dudley, Massachusetts.

The Gulls (4-4-2, 1-0-2 CCC) came out strong early on with a quick goal from junior Evan Couchot in the third minute. The Bison (6-3-1, 0-2-1 CCC) struck back in the 19th minute to knot it up at one apiece. Nichols junior Zach Turcotte sent a ball from the opposing 40-yard line to the streaking freshman Evan Lemoine, who was able to beat Endicott sophomore netminder Jesse Haines.

The Gulls had a great opportunity in the 67th minute to take the lead late with a penalty kick from junior Evan Couchot. The shot was fired to the bottom left where senior Patrick Porpora met the ball and denied the Gulls from taking the lead.

The game remained tied until the 104th minute in the second overtime, where Endicott junior Jesse Martinez found a close quarters cross from graduate student Dario Neukom to hand the Gulls their first conference win of the season and bring them back to .500.

Three things you need to know…
-Porpora led the way with four saves in the match.
-The Bison have played three CCC games this year, and all three have gone to overtime.
-Tonight's match marked the 23rd all-time meeting between the two programs. The Bison trail narrowly with a 10-12-1 mark.

Quote
"Tough loss tonight. We matched up very well during regulation, and when we were playing our style of soccer, we had some momentum and several opportunities to score. In the second overtime, Endicott had the momentum and its goal was scored with only inches of space between the ball and back post." –Nichols head coach Chris Traina
